We are so glad to be preparing for in-person summer camp again! Like you, we are trying to keep up with the most recent COVID-19 developments and with that, are using trusted resources as we plan. The American Camping Association and the Minnesota Department of Health have been incredible resources as we plan for safe ,Christ filled experiences! We are planning to operate in the safest way possible based on what we know TODAY. If the pandemic landscape changes, we will update our protocols as necessary, so we invite you to visit this page often for updates.

What kind of things are you doing to protect campers from COVID-19 this summer?
In consultation with our local and state officials and in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control we have developed strategies to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 by instituting basic procedure updates to our existing plan. It is still the case that outdoor ministry inherently is lower risk based on location, activities, and stringent risk mitigation plans that are in place.
Being outdoors, social distancing when able, hand hygiene, symptom checking, and testing as needed are the cornerstones of our mitigation plan. And in addition to the above, we have a communication plan in place to share updates to campers and staff as we hear of illness in our camp community. There is not a mask mandate in place for this summer.

How will my camper’s experience look different from a typical summer?
After a year which we made significant adjustments to the camp schedule to keep groups small and spaced out, summer camp 2022 will be much more typical to what folks know summer camp experiences at GLLM sites to be. The main place that you will notice differences from pre pandemic experiences is how we handle illness on site. When symptoms arise that are consistent with that of COVID-19, we will communicate with parents, test the individual, and ask the camper to mask while actively showing symptoms. In cases where the camper tests positive, we will quarantine the camper, call home to schedule a pickup, communicate with others in the camp community about potential exposure, and test those who were in close contact.
We are so excited to bring back large group worships, games, and activities that highlight the Christian community and faith celebration that is so ever present in each camp week!

Can the pastor and youth staff from our congregation still come to camp this summer?
Yes! You may know that last year we had limits to who could enter our camp community as we worked to mitigate the risk of infections. At this time, resource staff will be able to join us at camp! If you are a resource staff and plan to come for the day or are interested in staying overnight, please call our camp registrar, Steph Holme, at least one week in advance of your plan to visit.

What will happen if a case of COVID is suspected at camp?
The Minnesota Department of Health has developed some guidance for schools, youth, and childcare programs that is clear and easy to follow - it’s likely your child’s own school has used this same guidance this year. Following their guidance, we will take great care to isolate any campers or staff who are exhibiting COVID symptoms. Depending on the symptoms, options may range from monitoring the camper (if the symptom is less common and there is only one symptom) to requiring that the camper returns home as soon as possible. The action that is taken with that camper will determine what action needs to be taken with the cabin group. It is possible that an entire cabin could be asked to return home. We will work with county health officials to make that determination.
