An associate at Green Lake Lutheran Ministries plays a multifaceted role, blending hospitality and ministry while living in community at Green Lake Bible Camp in Spicer, MN. By actively choosing to live with others in a purposeful way, individuals create spaces where relationships flourish, personal growth is nurtured, and a sense of community is cultivated. From common areas for socializing to a communal kitchen for cooking and sharing meals, living together in a dorm-like setting encourages cooperation and unity and cultivates a sense of belonging and purpose.

Ministry Associates

The Ministry Associate Program aims to provide a vocational and educational opportunity for young adults by providing a broad outdoor ministry experience serving youth, adults, and families in a faith-based setting. Ministry Associates are given resources, support, and tasks to develop ministry skills and aid in the search for vocation. The Ministry Associate Program hopes to guide and equip those discerning a career in youth ministry, outdoor ministry, or non-profit organizations.

​Ministry Associates have the opportunity to build skills in the following three key areas: Congregational Ministry, Programming, and Hospitality
Congregational Ministry
Program Ministry
Hospitality Ministry
  • Partner with a local congregation for 10-15 hours/week and get hands-on experience in youth ministry
  • Weekly meetings with staff members (pastor or youth leader) to set expectations and plans for programming
  • Attend a variety of events such as ELCA synod events and local ministry meetings to network and grow together with fellow youth ministry workers

  • Aid the Program Team in planning, implementing, and facilitating in a variety of areas of ministry: youth, adult, family, day camp, and Serve Boldly 
  • Support curriculum & theme development 
  • Assist the Program Team in proactively recruiting summer ministry staff
  • Support coordination and planning of youth and adult programmed retreats
  • Play a key role in the upkeep and seasonal care of GLLM’s three sites​

  • Provide radical hospitality and hosting services including set-up and teardown for everyone that visits
  • Kitchen, dishwashing, and general cleaning tasks
  • Assisting with the grounds, including snow removal and maintaining wood supply
  • Be on call for groups and carry on-call host phone
  • Performing any other assigned duties
  • Year round staff host (dishes, stocking hosting stations, and helping with staff meals when no hosts/groups are onsite)​
Ministry Associate Job Information
  • Program runs from August - May
  • Full-time, flexible schedule for those pursuing education/seminary goals
  • $450/week stipend plus room and meals (camp grocery card is provided)
  • $1,000 education stipend for off-site educational opportunities
  • Monthly community-building events
  • PTO, holiday, and sick leave
  • We will strive to give two full days off, schedules will be variable due to programming, hosting, and congregational responsibilities. Hours will vary depending on time of year and tasks
  • Schedules will be set one month in advance

HOSPITALITY Associates

Hospitality Associates will cultivate a welcoming atmosphere, handle diverse interactions between retreat and rental guests and GLLM staff, and manage tasks efficiently. This position seeks someone dedicated to promoting inclusivity while carrying out duties effectively. Responsibilities span dishwashing, general cleaning, room set-ups, and grounds maintenance, providing opportunities for learning and personal growth. Efficiency in task management is paramount for success in this role. This role is typically for someone going to school and is looking for a community experience, lower housing and food costs, and onsite employment.

Hospitality Associate Job Information:
  • Program runs from August - May
  • 10 hours/week minimum in exchange for housing & food; must have both weekday and weekend availability
  • Most shifts are 7:00-3:00 p.m. and 3:00-11:00 p.m.
  • Optional and possible additional hours paid at an hourly rate
  • Monthly community-building events
  • Schedules will be set one month in advance
