2023 summer Timeline Details
Our camp programs will run Sunday - Thursday evening. This means staff will get Thursday evening off, and then come back for camp cleaning, staff meeting and worship on Fridays. You'll be done around noon on Friday each week. There's many reasons for this switch, but one important reason is to allow you to have more time on your weekends off!
Your commitment as a staff member will be from May 28 - August 13.
Salary range is $400-$650 per week based on position and bonus incentives we offer.

This week involves site and program preparation and is required for Assistant Program Directors, Day Camp Leaders, and Program Support Staff (Health Aide, Canteen Lead, Craft Cabin Lead, Waterfront Director, Specialized Program Support, and Communication/Media Specialist). - May 28-June 9 - All Staff Training (required for all staff)
- July 22 - Quilt Auction (all hands on deck!)

2023 summer staff Incentives
Early Bird bonusAny NEW staff member who returns their signed contract by February 15th will receive a $300 bonus at the end of the summer.
RETURNING staff members who return their signed contract by January 15 will receive a $500 bonus at the end of the summer. |
lifeguardAmerican Red Cross Certified Lifeguard - staff can obtain training through GLLM sponsored training or hold prior certification. Staff will receive $50 per pay period bonus.

Referral bonus
Returning staff who refer a new staff member who is hired and completes their contract will receive a $1,000 bonus at the end of the summer.

Summer Staff Position Descriptions
COUNSELOR | As a camper’s main person throughout the day, you will be a role model, a mentor, a listening ear and support. Research shows that counselors have the most impact on a camper’s experience. If you love to hang out with kids, play games, and show how awesome God’s family can be by being inclusive, caring, and helpful, this position is for you! Counseling staff spend night and day with kids and get to participate in all of the fun parts of the camp day! Most activities throughout the day are planned by others, allowing you to focus on your campers. Throughout the summer, counselors will also spend time on a Day Camp team, leading Vacation Bible School at congregations around Minnesota. You may also be called at times to serve as a host for retreat and rental groups that utilize our sites. Great experience for: Education majors of any kind, Recreation majors, Counseling and Social Work majors or anyone who loves to have fun with kids of all ages!
ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR (APD) | Between our 3 sites, we hire 6-7 APDs.
APDs work closely with the Program Directors and other year-round Program Staff. You would ensure the day runs smoothly and support the counseling staff in various ways. You may be tasked with planning worship, preparing for a large group game, deciding on the day’s schedule, leading an all-camp game, or helping with a homesick camper in the evening. APD’s work both behind-the-scenes and in the spotlight, and therefore need to be strong leaders and supporters, and ideally have 1-2 years of previous camp experience. Required training begins on May 22, 2023 for Assistant Program Directors, Day Camp Leaders and Program Support Staff.
DAY CAMP LEADER | based out of Green Lake Bible Camp
In addition to our on-site summer camp ministry, Green Lake Lutheran Ministries provides Day Camp ministry to several congregations around Minnesota. Each week we send out an average of 3-4 Day Camp teams, each of which consist of at least 3 staff members, to lead VBS-style programming. Day Camp Leaders head up these teams, facilitating a unique and quality experience at each congregation. Your main responsibilities include guiding and adapting weekly schedules, communicating with church leaders before and during the program, creating meaningful and fun experiences for campers, and supporting your team. Day Camp teams typically stay with host families in the Day Camp community for the week or you will stay at camp and commute each day to closer sites. Required training begins on May 22, 2023 for Assistant Program Directors, Day Camp Leaders and Program Support Staff. Great experience for: Elementary Education majors, Music majors, people who are effective communicators, people who love to plan and implement programming for preschoolers – 6th graders, people who enjoy a new experience each week.
PROGRAM SUPPORT STAFF POSITIONS | Green Lake Bible Camp, Shores of St. Andrew
These positions are vital to the Ministries of GLLM! If you are a Program Support Staff member, you will be in charge of a specific aspect of camp throughout the summer. When your particular space at camp isn’t being utilized, you will be an important member of the staff, interacting with campers, providing support to games, worships, campfires, and other fun parts of the camp day. Program Support Staff work with kids throughout the day, but do not have responsibilities overnight as counselors do. Many Program Support Staff positions require a specialized skill set, are great resume building experiences, and some can even be used as internship opportunities!
HEALTH AIDE
Keeping our campers safe and on-track with any needs they have while they are at camp is a huge part of our ministry. The Health Aide is the point person for anything health related, including organizing and utilizing all camper health forms, tracking and distributing medications, responding to first-aid situations, supporting homesick campers, and being a positive contributor to the atmosphere at camp. GLLM will pay for Emergency Medical Responder training as part of this position! Required training begins on May 22, 2023 for Assistant Program Directors, Day Camp Leaders and Program Support Staff. Great experience for: Anyone interested in being a part of the medical field
WATERFRONT DIRECTOR
The Waterfront Director keeps our waterfront a safe and enjoyable place for our campers and guests! The Waterfront Director will work with lifeguards to maintain safety protocols while campers are swimming, monitor the condition of our waterfront equipment, keep the beach hospitable for guests, and lead waterfront orientation each week. The Waterfront Director needs to be a certified lifeguard, and ideally has previous camp experience. Required training begins on May 22, 2023 for Assistant Program Directors, Day Camp Leaders and Program Support Staff. Attendance at GLLM staff lifeguard training will also be required for this supervisory position.
COMMUNICATIONS/MEDIA SPECIALIST
Tell the story of the amazing experiences of camp through multiple media platforms! You will use your photography, videography, graphic design and other marketing skills to create shareable content for giving parents and others a glimpse of life at camp. This position works closely with our office staff, and requires creativity, flexibility, and multimedia skills. Great experience for: Communication and Media majors, photography majors, digital media majors
CANTEEN LEAD
This position is ideal for someone interested in gaining business experience while having fun interacting with kids! You will set up our retail canteen space, keep track of weekly camper transactions, and track & order merchandise. As a part of the Program Support Staff team, other important community pieces will be a part of your day, such as kitchen and dish help and programmed pieces of the daily schedule. This position expands accounting and organizational skills! Required training begins on May 22, 2023 for Assistant Program Directors, Day Camp Leaders and Program Support Staff. Great experience for: Accounting and Business majors, Math Education majors, or anyone interested in running a business or retail operation
CRAFT CABIN LEAD
The Craft Cabin Lead is in charge of all the awesome crafts that happen throughout the summer! This includes our famous tie-dye, as well as creating new and fun projects for campers to enjoy. The craft cabin lead gets the craft cabin organized and transformed into a fun place to be, monitors craft supplies, and gets to participate in awesome ministry through interactions with campers who visit the craft cabin each day. Great experience for: Art Education Majors, Art Majors, Education Majors, Crafters or anyone who loves being creative!
KITCHEN CREW
Feeding our campers is a huge part of each day at camp! Be a part of our dedicated and fun kitchen team, and serve delicious food with a smile each day! This position is great for people who enjoy preparing food, working with a small staff, serving others, and participating in camp life. Considering getting into the restaurant or hospitality industry? This can be great experience for that too! You will also have the opportunity to serve on Day Camps during the summer.
SPECIALIZED PROGRAM LEAD
You are the “can do it all” type. You love wearing a different hat at each hour of the day. You can stay organized and energetic and can work well with staff and campers alike! This position supports our special programmed pieces such as the Stargazer overnight and intentional meal and snack times, Trailblazer special programs, and the end of the week Campapalooza! As part of the Program Support Staff, you are also essential to the afternoon rotational activities and community support in the kitchen, dish room, and other high needs areas. Required training begins on May 22, 2023 for Assistant Program Directors, Day Camp Leaders and Program Support Staff.
MAINTENANCE
Help us to keep our sites in good shape this summer! Assist our Property Managers with tasks throughout the summer. Typical jobs might include mowing, weed-whipping, helping with minor repairs, and troubleshooting as needed throughout the summer. This position will include a lot of variety and being outdoors most of the day!
